Minister of Finance, Chris Sinckler, will be leaving the island tomorrow, Wednesday, March 23, to attend the annual board of Governors Meeting of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

While there, he will also take part in the annual meeting of the Inter-American Investment Corporation – the private sector arm of the IDB, as well as the meeting of the Ministers of Finance for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The meetings are expected to focus on a range of issues including the post recessionary development issues for Latin America and the Caribbean, and the role of the bank in forging sustainable economic growth for its members.

Specific attention will also be paid to the potential negative impact on the hemisphere by rising oil and commodity prices, the conflict in the Middle East and the recent catastrophe in Japan.??

During the conference Mr. Sinckler will be having a series of bilateral engagements with some of his ministerial counterparts, including the Finance Minister of Canada, and others to discuss matters of mutual concern, including the recent OECD classification of Barbados.??

The Finance Minister will also explore various economic prospects with potential Canadian investors in an attempt to secure investment opportunities for the island.

He returns to Barbados on Tuesday, March 29.
