Patrick Todd (FP)??

Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Patrick Todd, has reiterated government’s pledge to assist the manufacturing sector, as a means of sustaining Barbados’ future development.

He gave this undertaking today during the official launch of the West India Biscuit Company’s (WIBISCO) 100th Anniversary Celebrations, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

Though impressed with WIBISCO’s corporate spirit in the community, Mr. Todd challenged other businesses to follow suit. "Government is committed to promoting the development of Barbados and we will continue to provide appropriate support to local manufacturers but will, in turn, expect manufacturers to respond with a sense of corporate social responsibility."

Describing WIBISCO as a beacon of Barbadian manufacturing, the Minister of State said the company, had contributed to the island’s development through the employment of 300 persons on a full-time or part time basis.

Additionally, he also lauded the island’s lone biscuit factory for penetrating 24 markets – a move that allowed the company to stay afloat during the current global economic crisis.

"The 100th anniversary is not only recognition of the company’s longevity but also, a celebration of its time-honoured commitment to providing products at affordable prices to Barbadian families," Mr. Todd remarked.
