Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, Patrick Todd??

The role of non-governmental organisations in the development of the island’s youth has been highlighted.

Speaking last Saturday at the closing ceremony of The Kiwanis North Common Entrance Support Programme, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, Patrick Todd, said the Ministry was always happy to work with service organisations to assist in the development of young people.

"We recognise the tremendous value of the contribution that is made annually by service organisations such as Kiwanis, to national events and causes…We know that education is not solely the responsibility of the Ministry of Education," he said.

Minister Todd also urged corporate Barbados to join with the Kiwanis Club and other "like-minded" organisations in such activities.

"We are the stakeholders in education and in order for our island to maintain and indeed surpass our current rate of development, we must all come together as a people to ensure that we protect our future by supporting education at all levels," he pointed out.

The Kiwanis Club of Barbados North, under the leadership of Anthony Sobers, initiated the Common Entrance Support Programme to assist students from the north of the island who could not afford to pay for private tuition in their preparation for the Barbados Secondary Schools Entrance Examination.

The programme has been in existence for nine years, and transitioned from the St. Alban’s Primary School to its present location at the Alexandra Secondary School.
