Talks on enhancing a 45-year-old bilateral relationship were held when Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. The Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, met with the non-resident Ambassador of Romania to Barbados, Mrs. Theodora-Magdalena Mircea.
In welcoming Ms. Mircea to Barbados, Minister Walcott wished her a productive tenure and expressed his desire to see a more fruitful and dynamic relationship between the two countries.
He also thanked the Government of Romania for its support in the European Union regarding Barbados’ Financial Blacklisting in 2019.
Ambassador Mircea, who is resident in Cuba, noted that there are a number of areas that Romania and Barbados could cooperate on, including renewable energy production and development.
She also indicated a desire for Romanian culture to be shared with Barbadians, pointing out that in recent years their summer festivals have gained international acclaim, and Romania, like Barbados, has UNESCO World Heritage Sites, nine in total.
The two officials also discussed multilateral support and cooperation, disaster risk management, tourism development and marketing, business development and investment opportunities, health and education.
Also present at the courtesy call were Permanent Secretary, Simone Rudder; Foreign Service Officer, Darren Carter, and Romanian Consul, Ionut Birsan.
