The Entomology Section of the Ministry of Agriculture is once again appealing to members of the public "to get out and get involved" in the bounty programme in an effort to rid the island of the Giant African Snail.
According to entomologist, Ian Gibbs: "The programme, which has been in effect since late March 2009, pays a bounty of 50 cents per pound and anyone can participate."
Explaining that it was it is a good way to for persons to make money for their personal use, or for community groups to raise funds for their projects, the agriculture officer pointed out that persons could either drop off the snails at the Ministry of Agriculture at Graeme Hall or ministry staff would collect them if the latter proved difficult.
"You can call the Entomology Section at 434-5107 and ask that the snails be collected, and just give your name, address and contact number. Furthermore, the Ministry’s accounts section will inform you when you can collect your money or you can call them at 434-5068," he disclosed.
The Ministry of Agriculture is encouraging all Barbadians to take part in this exercise as they seek to eradicate the Giant African Snail. tblackman@barbados.gov.bb
