The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development is assuring parents and guardians that children using this country’s public transportation system will be safe, when the new school term begins next Monday, September 6.

This has come from Chief Education Officer, Laurie King, today, after officials from that Ministry held talks with personnel from the Transport Board at the Ministry’s Constitution Road headquarters.

According to him, both parties discussed a number of issues related to the efficient and effective transportation of students to and from school, and had come to some resolutions on how this could be done utilising the 240 buses which the Board will have available to the travelling public.

Operations Manager, Desmond Sabir, added that matters related to the free school bus service had also been raised at the meeting, as well as ways that the Board could communicate more effectively with children to encourage good behaviour and eliminate vandalism on the buses.

He said he was looking forward to a working partnership with the Ministry to better resolve those issues. kmoore@barbados.gov.bb
