The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation has been assured by the contractors constructing a new reservoir at the Grand View Site, Government Hill, St. Michael that steps will be taken to minimise the concentration of dust at the Springer Memorial School.

Ministry officials conveyed this yesterday to the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) noting that the contractors hired by the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) had indicated this would be done by use of a sprinkler system, raising of the dust barrier and the removal of all stored material on site.

The construction has resulted in a higher concentration of dust in the surrounding areas, and this has impacted negatively on one block of the Springer Memorial Secondary School.

To this end, the students and staff of this block had to be relocated and this has resulted in the first and second form students being asked to remain at home for the remainder of the term.

However, classes for forms three, four, five and six will continue as usual. The Ministry has given the assurance that it will continue to monitor the situation at the school on Government Hill.
