Farmers and householders are being urged to bring their "sick" or diseased plants to two plant clinics being held by the National Agricultural Health and Food Control Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture on Wednesday, February 6 and Thursday, February 7, from 9:00 a.m. to noon each day.
The first clinic will take place at the South Eastern Farmers’ Co-op, Six Roads, St. Philip, located next to the library, while the other will be held in the car park of the St. George Parish Church, The Glebe.
Plant Health Specialist with the Agency, Bret Taylor, said persons would receive free consultations from trainee plant doctors who would be on hand to diagnose any problems. He added that the objectives of the clinics were to expose the trainees to various pests and diseases which were prevalent around the island;
to encourage householders to bring in samples for identification; to build a database of pests and diseases affecting local crops; and to help the agency identify when new pests come into the island.
