Celebrations to commemorate Education Month continued recently when the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development hosted a Health Fair and exhibition for its staff members.

Last Wednesday, employees were treated to massages; blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol checks; pedicures and manicures; as well as information on cancer and some types of alternative medicines.

The exhibition was held two days later. Staff members showed off their creativity and displayed jewelry, paintings, photography, screen paintings, fashion and ceramic creations, along with traditional Caribbean food.

Celebrations will continue this week, with The John Cumberbatch Memorial Lecture, which will be held on Wednesday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m., at the Almond Bay Conference Centre.?? This event, which is organised by the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), will feature the Vice President of Education International, Reg Weaver, who will speak on the topic "Transforming today’s classroom for tomorrow’s world".??

On Saturday, October 31, the BUT will also stage a Healthy Lifestyle Extravaganza at its Merry Hill, Welches, St Michael, location, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.?? Members of the public will have the opportunity to have their blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels and diabetes checked. HIV/AIDS counselling and testing will be available.

The curtain will come down on the month’s celebrations with a cricket match and lime for Ministry staff and family, which will be held on Saturday, October 31, at 4:00 p.m., at the Bridgefield playing field. Cricketers from the Ministry will play against a team of teachers from schools across the island.??
