Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, presenting an award to former CXC Registrar, Mr. Wilfred Beckles.

Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, has reiterated the commitment of his ministry to the work of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

This pledge came last weekend at CXC’s awards function to honour its class of 1979, the first class to sit the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate, at the Christ Church Parish Church Centre.??

Mr. Jones noted that after the initial challenge to gain acceptance and respect as a body, coming after the Cambridge GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates, the CXC was now "highly respected across the world as a brand associated with exceptional quality".

"The challenge is now to be globally competitive," he advised, adding: "This is likely to be achieved through quality assurance of the council’s products, and the availability of comprehensive certification options. This means that the Council must be continually engaging in staff and organisational development that focuses on the harnessing of strategic capacity and the expansion of its products and services."

The Minister also commended the organisation’s staff and the graduating class for their willingness to "take a chance with the CXC and so ably set it on a path to credibility."??

He urged them to "maintain the high standards that have been set to preserve the integrity and reliability of the Council’s examinations, and ensure that the name of the CXC continues to be associated with high levels of credibility and excellence in the global marketplace."??
