Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, Santia Bradshaw, has urged Barbadians to partner with that Ministry to expand training opportunities in non-traditional areas.

She has promised that the Ministry will soon be providing comprehensive information on the various entities to which people can contribute, including those related to technical and vocational training.

Minister Bradshaw was speaking at the launch of the Oliver and Janet St. John, Christian and Hyacinth Agbadamashie Foundation Charity, an initiative she welcomed since it embodied the principle embraced by Government in its “Give Back Policy” recently approved by Cabinet.

The Foundation Charity will provide scholarships and grants to eligible Barbadians to pursue further studies, as well as fund research in the areas of health and education.

The Education Minister urged future recipients of these awards to ensure that they too give back to Barbados.

“While the Government prioritizes investment in the education of its citizens, there is a consequential civic responsibility of each person to country. This civic responsibility requires that those who have derived benefits provided by the State have a responsibility to assist others and pull them along,” she said.

She told the trustees of the Foundation Charity: “By your stellar example, you help to continue a dynamic which will have a multiplier effect,” adding that she was satisfied that the charity’s objectives, once achieved, would make a substantial contribution to Barbados’ development.
