As part of its activities to observe Education Month, the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development will have a hike through the Scotland District, this Saturday, October 10.

The walk will begin at the old Indian Ground Primary School, Indian Ground, St. Peter at 6:00 a.m. It will be led by Captain DeLisle Bascombe who will take hikers on a scenic route through Bawdens, Morgan Lewis, Green Pond and Shorey Village, ending at the Conrad Hunte Pavilion.

It is estimated that the trek will last for approximately three hours.

Hikers are advised to wear comfortable footwear, well-fitting socks, long trousers, T-shirts and light, long-sleeved shirts. They are also encouraged to bring lip balm, sun screen and headgear as well as protective gear in case of inclement weather.

Meanwhile, other activities for the month include Give a Book Day, next Wednesday, October 15, the John Cumberbatch Memorial Lecture and a Healthy Lifestyle Extravaganza.??

The John Cumberbatch Memorial Lecture is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, at the Almond Bay Conference Centre, Hastings, Christ Church. It is being organised by the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) and will feature Vice President of Education International, Reg Weaver, who will speak on the topic "Transforming today’s classroom for tomorrow’s world".

On Saturday, October 31, the BUT will stage a Healthy Lifestyle Extravaganza at Merry Hill, Welches, St. Michael, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Members of the public will get the opportunity to have their blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol and diabetes checked.?? HIV/AIDS counselling and testing will also be available.??
