The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources has designated November as energy month and will celebrate under the theme Empowering People, Building Resilience.

Activities to mark the occasion will start off tomorrow, Saturday, November 16 with a free 5 kilometre walk at 6:00 a.m. starting at the bottom of UWI Hill.  

This will be followed by a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 17 at 8:30 a.m. at the St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, Silver Sands, Christ Church.

On Wednesday, November 20, Minister responsible for Energy, Wilfred Abrahams will commission a 381 kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

The highlight of the month will be a free Energy Expo entitled ‘The Road to 100 per cent Renewable Energy: Building a Resilient, Clean and Energy Efficient Future Together”, which comes off on Friday, November 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.

The expo will showcase renewable energy (RE) and energy efficient technology such as solar photovoltaic systems, solar hot water systems, solar air conditioning systems, electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, electric bikes, water conservation solutions, LED lighting and solar lighting. 

Finance and insurance companies will also be present to inform persons on how best they can acquire financing and insurance to fund such RE solutions and safeguard their investments.

Learning institutions such as the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and the Barbados Community College will be present to provide information on available training and courses offered in the field of renewable energy.

This information will assist persons who are interested in starting or transitioning into careers in the renewable energy sector. There will also be activities for children including a jumping tent and face painting.

The final activity for the month will see the Minister for Energy, Wilfred Abrahams commission another Solar PV system on Monday,  November 25  at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus.

The public is invited to come out and participate in the 5 kilometre walk, the Thanksgiving Service and the Energy Expo.
