The Ministry of Environment and National Beautification (MENB) is presently conducting a survey of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) Sector. This is being done to update data on refrigerant usage and the size and composition of the local RAC equipment plant.

To facilitate this process, the Ministry is inviting stakeholders such as importers of air conditioners and refrigerators/freezers, technicians and facility managers with RAC equipment, such as manufacturing plants, commercial buildings, hotels and so on, to click here to download the questionnaires. The relevant form or forms should then by completed and returned.

Completed questionnaires should be emailed to odsmanagement@barbados.gov.bb or hand-delivered to the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification, 10th Floor, Warrens Tower II, Warrens, St. Michael, BB12001, Attention: Shontelle Wellington. In addition, surveyors will also be conducting in-person and telephone interviews with some stakeholders.

Persons are also urged to facilitate surveyors taking an inventory of the RAC equipment on their property at a mutually agreeable time to collect the requisite information.

This information is necessary as the Ministry continues to update data from the sector on quantities and types of RAC equipment such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units installed, imported and or retailed in Barbados, and the quantities and categories of refrigerant that is being used to service this equipment.

This is in preparation for the freeze on the importation of R32, R134a, R404A, R407A/C, R507, R410a and other Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) refrigerants in Barbados from January 1, 2024, and the phase-out of R22, R406A, R408A, R409A and other Hydrochlorofluorocarbons by January 1, 2030.
