Several events have been planned to celebrate Tourism Week which runs from December 7 to 16.??

Festivities will commence on Wednesday, December 7 with a??media??launch??and cocktail reception??at George Washington House, Bush Hill, the Garrison.??This year,??the week will be held under the theme??Achieving Success Through Service Excellence.?? On Saturday, December 10, there will be a??Sundown Beach Walk from Payne’s Bay to Folkestone Park, St. James followed by a barbeque. Persons interested in participating in the walk should assemble at the Coastal Zone Management Unit, Bay Street, where buses will provide transportation to the site.??

A??church service??will be held on Sunday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m.??at??the??Carrington Wesleyan Holiness Church??and Minister of Tourism, Richard Sealy, will be in attendance. The lesson will be read by Junior Minister of Tourism and Queen’s College student, Dionne Weekes.

Following this will be the??Tourists for the Day??initiative, to be held on Monday December 12, at 9:30 a.m. This will see students who participated in the Ministry’s Tourism, Education, Awareness, and Me (TEAM ) projects being treated to a Jitney bus tour of??Historic??Bridgetown and its Garrison (Barbados’ UNESCO World Heritage site) and guided tours of??the Museum??of Parliament??and the Jewish Synagogue. According to the Ministry of Tourism, this will be an opportunity to expose younger persons to aspects of Barbados’ tourism product.

On Wednesday, December 14, there will be a tour of the historic George Washington house and viewing of the newly discovered tunnels at 10:00 a.m. This will be followed by the "Change of Sentry" at the Garrison Clock Tower coordinated by the Barbados Garrison Historical Consortium. The public is invited to attend.

Various restaurants will participate in the Dine Around to be held on Thursday, December 15. More details on this event will soon be available.

Tourism Week will culminate with the launch of the Barbados Arts and Craft Experience Pilot Project at the Pelican Craft Centre, Harbour Road, Bridgetown beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Tourism Week Planning Committee, organisers of the week, is chaired by the Ministry of Tourism and comprises representatives from the Barbados Tourism Authority, Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association and the Barbados Workers’ Union.
