Secondary school students are once again, being afforded the opportunity to compete for the title of Junior Minister of Tourism 2014 through the Ministry of Tourism???s annual speech competition.
The contest, which is a part of the Tourism Education Awareness and Me (TEAM) Programme, is open to pupils between the ages of 14 and 17. It aims to develop and enhance knowledge of tourism matters.
Competitors will be required to speak on either: Accessible Tourism or Customer Service in the Tourism Industry. The competition will also include a Mystery Tourism Topic on which entrants will be required to make a one-minute presentation.
Schools wishing to participate are invited to select one entrant and one reserved candidate.
Completed entry forms must be submitted through the school, to the Ministry of Tourism, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC), Two Mile Hill, St. Michael no later than Friday, February 14. Forms may also be submitted by fax to 436-4828 or via email to armstrongm@tourism.gov.bb
An orientation session will be held at the Ministry on Thursday, February 20, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Communication techniques, etiquette and issues relating to the speech topics will be discussed.
The winning student will be designated Junior Minister of Tourism 2014 and will be given the opportunity to represent Barbados at the Regional Tourism Youth Congress, hosted by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation.
