The Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources (MTWW) is actively investigating an incident of illegal dumping at Mose Bottom, Hillaby, St. Andrew, which allegedly involved a MTWW truck and three employees.

The incident apparently occurred on Thursday, May 19, 2022, but was brought to the Ministry’s attention after a video of the act went viral on social media over the weekend.

The video captured three individuals, identified as MTWW staff members, dumping material from a MTWW truck in an area that was not an authorised dump site. Such behaviour contravenes Sections 8, 12, 13, 16 (1) and 17 of the Health Services (Collection & Disposal of Refuse) Regulations, 1975.

The MTWW strongly condemns illegal dumping and emphasises that the actions of the alleged employees do not reflect the values or daily duties of the Ministry.

Part of the Ministry’s remit includes maintaining the environment by cleaning drains, as well as debushing, and removing rubbish from the curb and slippers at the edge of roads. Trash is collected and then dumped in the Mangrove Landfill or taken to the Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre.

Once investigations have been completed, disciplinary action will be taken against the perpetrators, if warranted, in accordance with the procedures established in the Code of Discipline in the Public Service Act
