The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), will be hosting a Walk The Talk event for the general public on Sunday, April 7, World Health Day.

This year’s theme is High Blood Pressure and one way to keep hypertension at bay is through physical activity. The walk will take place from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., beginning in Independence Square, The City.

The Ministry has adapted the Walk The Talk initiative into a two-hour event which will feature healthy foods and product sampling as well as a cool down exercise session at the end of the walk.

The initiative was originally conceptualised by the BCCI, the Barbados Employers’ Confederation and the Small Business Association to challenge companies to get employees to walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day – the equivalent of 30 minutes of exercise.

The World Health Day Walk The Talk event will move off from Independence Square, proceed onto Wharf Road, continue along the Lewis-Wickham Boardwalk turning right onto Hincks Street then left onto Princess Alice Highway. From there, the participants will turn right onto Prescod Boulevard, proceeding right, around Elsie Payne Roundabout and along President Kennedy Drive, passing Holborn; turning right at the traffic lights and continuing along Westbury Road. The participants will then turn right and proceed along Baxters Road, continuing along Tudor Street, making the left turn, proceeding across James Street, turning left onto Roebuck Street and right onto Crumpton Street; after which they will make a right turn onto St. Michael’s Row and end at Independence Square.

Prizes will be awarded to The Largest Group, The Youngest Walker and The Oldest Walker. No registration is required.
