Staff at the Ministry of Agriculture got the opportunity to “brush up” on their research skills when they attended a preparatory half-day workshop this morning at the Accra Beach Hotel, designed to teach efficiency in research presentation and preparation.

According to Agricultural Officer and Coordinator of the seminar, Mark Byer, “the whole purpose of conducting this class was to encourage and teach staff members how to prepare their own research papers for the upcoming National Agricultural Conference (NAC) scheduled for July 6 to 10 this year at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre ”.

“We have enlisted some 40 persons from various divisions of the Ministry for this workshop and we are hoping this exercise would benefit them significantly,” said Mr. Byer.

The half-day seminar which has been held for the past seven years featured lecturer in Computer Science at the University of the West Indies, Dr. John Charley, and consultant June Roach, both former staff members of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Agricultural Officer added that he wanted to encourage members of the public who are desirous of taking part in the conference to notify the Ministry as early as possible of their participation.

The 2009 NAC is a joint conference with the Caribbean Agro Economic Society (CAES) and the theme this year will be “Food Security, Investment Flows and Agricultural Development in the Caribbean”.
