Security concerns at schools across the island are taken seriously by the Ministry of Education.
This assurance was given to journalists today by Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Senator Harry Husbands.
While on tour of Providence Elementary and Secondary Schools in St. George, Senator Husbands, responding to questions about security at public schools in the wake of an incident at Parkinson Secondary School yesterday, indicated that newly appointed Principal Jeff Broomes, had said he was "very satisfied with the security as it currently stands at that school".
Senator Husbands, however, added: "But, let me assure you that the Ministry of Education is always taking the issue of security seriously… Any act of violence anywhere in Barbados, whether it is [in] the school or on the street is to be deplored."
Queried about the Principal’s welfare, the Parliamentary Secretary noted that he had spoken to Mr. Broomes yesterday and "he was in pretty good spirits".
