Local exhibitors continue to show great interest in Agrofest, with the national exhibition "bursting at the seams" with Barbadians who wish to display their products and services.
This is according to Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS), James Paul, who said while the increased numbers posed some challenges for the BAS in terms of space, it was a problem which the organisers welcomed.
He was speaking today during a presentation ceremony for winners of the 2011 Agrofest Primary Schools Poster Competition at First Citizens Investment Services at Warrens, St. Michael.
"In terms of exhibitors, we are doing very well. We will surpass our numbers from last year…We are looking at 158 exhibitors. We are ahead by about some 40 exhibitors compared to last year. It was a godsend that we were able to get more space at Weymouth ???B’ to provide for more exhibitors," he said.
With regard to sponsorship, Mr. Paul noted that even though the economic recession did present some difficulties, the festival continued to receive good support from corporate Barbados.
"We are still doing relatively well considering the economic circumstances. We receive a lot of support in kind… The Sanitation Service Authority is really a big sponsor this year. We had tried to get the SSA on board in previous years, but this year it came on board in a very big way. So, I think it will play a critical role in Agrofest," the BAS head pointed out.
The national exhibition will be held from Friday, February 24, to Sunday, February 26, at Queen’s Park, under the theme Renewable Energy: Powering Agriculture to Success.
