Barbadians will be given more opportunities to learn about home composting when the Solid Waste Project Unit (SWPU), of the Ministry of Health, hosts half dozen half-day workshops from October 25 to December 3.

They will run from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon each day and will be conducted on the premises of the SWPU at Maxwelton, Lower Collymore Rock, St. Michael. The method of instruction will be power point presentations, interactive discussion and hands-on-training.

Members of the public are urged to register for the first workshop this Saturday, October 25, by calling the SWPU at 427-5910. The others are: Wednesday, October 29; Saturday, November 8; Wednesday, November 12; Saturday, November 22 and Wednesday, December 3.

The workshops will educate the public about the benefits of composting their vegetable and garden waste and the extended benefits to the nation’s waste management facility.

The Solid Waste Project Unit is the agency responsible for implementing the Integrated Solid Waste Management Programme (ISWMP), a 20-year vision of managing solid waste on the island.  The ISWMP is predicated on the principle of the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
