Barbados is likely to see an increase in technical assistance from the Organisation of American States (OAS), as that agency seeks to intensify its focus on regional projects.

Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza, made this disclosure during a recent meeting with Prime Minister David Thompson, as part of a two-day visit to Barbados.??

Mr. Thompson welcomed the news, noting that Government’s finances were being put under more pressure, particularly from young persons seeking scholarships and jobs.

Mr. Insulza also updated the Prime Minister on the projects and programmes implemented in Barbados by the OAS within the last few years, and presented him with a paper detailing these activities.

The discussions also centred on the political situation in Honduras and proposals for the way forward.

During his visit, the Secretary General also met with Governor General, Sir Clifford Husbands and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean.
