Employers in Barbados seem eager to give their managers and supervisors an opportunity to develop critical management skills.

This observation was made by Training & Development Officer at The Productivity Council, Karen Collins, who said an additional workshop for supervisors and managers will be conducted next week since last month’s course was heavily subscribed.

The two-day workshop will be held on October 4 and 5, at the Council’s office, Third Floor, Baobab Tower, Warrens, St. Michael, starting at 9:00 a.m. Some of the topics to be examined are: Key Roles and Responsibilities of the Supervisor; Leadership; Building Trust; Employee Engagement; Performance Management & Coaching; and Time Management & Delegation.

Persons interested in attending the training should call Tara Parris at The Council at 535-5901, or email tparris@productivitycouncil.org.bb for the registration fee.

Underscoring the importance of the training, Mrs. Collins explained: “In addition to exploring the topics outlined through presentations, discussions, group work, and other activities, participants spend time in self-evaluation, looking at their strengths and weaknesses, as well as setting goals for their future, in an effort to continuously improve themselves.”

Mrs. Collins disclosed that approximately 400 persons had been exposed to the training between 2010 and this year. She added that the feedback from participants had been very positive, with several reporting that the information received was being used in their everyday environment to help improve their effectiveness while interacting with staff.

The Supervisors and Managers Workshop is usually held twice a year, but because of the great interest shown, four were scheduled for 2017.
