Students writing this year’s Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Test, commonly known as the Common Entrance Examination will now have an extra 15 minutes to complete the Mathematics paper.

Word of this has come from Acting Senior Education Officer in the Examinations Unit, Glyne Price, who revealed that the Mathematics paper would change from one hour to one hour and 15 minutes.

Mr. Price explained that teachers had expressed reservations about the length of time allotted for the paper. “Teachers were concerned that many students were not completing the Mathematics paper, especially Section 3, which calls for reasoning,” he pointed out.

The Acting Senior Education Officer added that the increase in time would not affect the structure of the paper. “There will be the same number of questions. The only change will be the time,” he stated.

Approximately 3600 students are expected to sit this year’s Common Entrance Exam scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 5 at 9:00 a.m.
