| A new session of Parliament begins tomorrow, Wednesday, March 6.??(FP) |
A new chapter in our history will unfold tomorrow, March 6, when Governor General, Sir Elliott Belgrave, delivers the Throne Speech to usher in a new session of Parliament, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the Senate Chamber.
The speech will outline Government’s policies and programmes for the future.
As a result, the Royal Barbados Police Force has announced some temporary changes to traffic arrangements to facilitate this event and amendments to earlier notices.
The following roads will now be closed to vehicular traffic between 1:00 and 8:00 p.m. and not from 2:30 p.m. as was previously stated. They are: Trafalgar Street, High Street, Rickett Street, Wharf Road and Broad Street from its junction with Prince William Henry Street to its junction with High Street.
In addition, vehicular traffic will not be permitted to travel from Fairchild Street onto the Charles Duncan O’Neal Bridge during these hours and motorists travelling along Broad Street will be diverted onto Prince William Henry Street.
For 13 hours, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., no parking will be allowed along the following roads: Prince William Henry Street, Marhill Street, Palmetto Street, Rickett Street, High Street, Belmont Road, Constitution Road, John Beckles Drive, Martindale’s Road, St. Michael’s Row, Bridge Street, Trafalgar Street, Magazine Lane, Fairchild Street, Lower Bay Street, Jemmott’s Lane and River Road.
Invited guests will park in the Elsie Payne Complex and the playing field at Queen’s Park, while staff of Parliament will park along Wharf Road in the area reserved for staff of the Treasury and Inland Revenue Department.
Members of the public are asked to comply with the lawful instructions of uniformed police officers on duty who will be deployed at strategic points to facilitate temporary traffic arrangements.
