A??one-day training workshop on mosquito and rodent control will be held tomorrow, Friday, May 20.

It targets a wide cross section of Government departments and agencies whose personnel will be sensitised and trained about vector control in order to reduce the incidence of leptospirosis and dengue.

The Vector Control Unit of the Ministry of Health will host the seminar in its training room located on the 5th Floor, National Insurance (NIS) Building, Fairchild Street, Bridgetown, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Organisations which are slated to attend are the Barbados Transport Board, the National Housing Corporation, the National Conservation Commission, the Electoral and Boundaries Commission, The Barbados Statistical Service, the Data Processing Department, the Sanitation Service Authority and the Welfare Department. Primary school janitors as well as Government security service personnel will also be in attendance.

The Unit has trained 8,737 persons since the start of the programme in January 2010. By year-end, it is aiming to sensitise approximately 12,000 more individuals across the island. (JG/BGIS)
