"Bring yuh hat and come!" -?? is the call from the Environmental Protection Department (EDP) of the Ministry of Environment. As part of the National Marine Litter Monitoring Programme, the department is inviting all persons to join in a clean-up of the Morgan Lewis Beach on International Coastal Clean-up Day, Saturday, September 17.

While all Barbadians are welcome to be part of the exercise, the EPD is extending a special invitation to the residents of the neighbouring Shorey Village community in St. Andrew.

In order to participate, volunteers must register with an EPD Marine Pollution Officer by calling 310-3620. Registration must be completed by Friday, September 9. Transportation and light refreshments will be provided for registered volunteers.

A park and ride service will be in operation and, persons are asked to assemble at the Environmental Protection Department, L.V. Harcourt Lewis Building, Dalkeith, St. Michael, at 5:15 a.m. for a prompt 5:30 a.m. departure. Buses will return to the EDP headquarters after the clean-up. Those persons who will be coordinating their own transportation are asked to assemble at the Conrad Hunte Sports Club car park, Shorey Village, St. Andrew, by 6:00 a.m.

International Coastal Clean-up Day is centred around the removal of litter from beaches and the marine environment and raising public awareness on the negative impacts of littering. The EPD focuses on educating the public about the causes and effects of marine litter and provides information on the types and amounts of litter found on beaches.
