Most Outstanding Parish Ambassadors 2010, Sadie Maynard and Tony Pompey, along with Attendant of the Year, Cherie Boyce, recently undertook their Overseas Assignment to New York.

They were accompanied by Promotions Officer of the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat, Jessica Parris, and were guests of the Consul General of Barbados in New York, Lennox Price.

According to an official, the purpose of the trip was two-fold. It served as an award to the Most Outstanding Parish Ambassadors and Attendant of the Year for their exceptional achievement in the 2010 Community Independence Celebrations Programme. Secondly, it facilitated the group’s fulfillment of their roles as promoters of the Community Independence Celebrations Programme at an international level, while allowing them to interact with persons and community groups from the Barbadian community in New York.

The group visited many places of interest in the New York area during the June 25 to July 2 trip, including the United Nations (UN) Office, Brooklyn Museum and Botanical Gardens, and Coney Island. They also went on bus tours in Manhattan and Harlem.???? Accompanied by Consul General Price, the contingent attended a service on Sunday, June 26, at the St Alban’s Episcopal Church in Brooklyn. The congregation?? ??comprised mainly Barbadian and Caribbean nationals.

The spokesperson said the Most Outstanding Parish Ambassadors and Attendant of the Year were able to "use the knowledge gleaned" during their various training programmes at a reception held in their honour at the offices of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations on Wednesday, June 29. Those present included Ambassador Joseph Goddard of the Barbados Permanent Mission to the United Nations; Consul General Price; staff of the Permanent Mission to the UN,

Consulate General, Barbados Tourism Authority and Invest Barbados Inc.; and members of the various Barbadian associations in New York.??
