Tourism stakeholders will get a better idea about the threats which can destabilise this vital industry when the 5th Annual Multi-Hazard Disaster Management Symposium is held next week.

The symposium will be held on Wednesday, August 18, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St Michael, from 9:00 a.m to noon.

One of the highlights of the two hour session, will be a presentation on the Tivoli Gardens incident, its impact on the Jamaican tourism sector and what lessons can be learnt by local tourism officials.?? It will be delivered by Director-General in Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism, Carrolle Guntley, who will speak on the topic: Tourism and Disasters – When the Unexpected Strikes.

There will also be a panel discussion themed: The Importance of Safety and Security to Barbados’ Tourism Sector, as well as remarks from the Coordinator of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, Jeremy Collymore.

Minister of Tourism, Richard Sealy, will deliver the feature address.??
