Stakeholders in the tourism industry have been encouraged to participate in what promises to be an educational – and timely-seminar this week.

According to Tourism Development Officer with the Ministry of Tourism, Shanise Taylor, the 7th Annual Multi Hazard Disaster Symposium, which will be held this Friday, November 16, at Hilton Barbados, will offer worthwhile guidelines to assist in preparation for natural events, with tsunamis being brought into focus this year.

Ms. Taylor explained that "it should be an exciting and informative forum, where we will discuss realistic scenarios pertaining to tsunamis and the sector’s preparedness for the onset of various hazards.??

"This would assist us in providing a safe and secure environment for our visitors and locals alike; such an event should be of import to all stakeholders in the sector, whether involved directly or indirectly," she stressed.

Noting that preparation for such events should not be taken lightly, the Tourism Development Officer stressed that "recent disasters, namely Hurricane Sandy and earthquakes as close to home as Trinidad, highlight the importance and relevance of such a symposium".

Persons interested in participating in the forum should contact Ms. Taylor at 430-7528 or email taylors@tourism.gov.bb.
