Students at Graydon Sealy Secondary School were told by Chief Education Officer, Dr. Ramona Archer-Bradshaw, that blazing a trail is not a self-serving activity but one that makes the path easier for someone else to follow.

This acknowledgement came yesterday as she addressed the unveiling ceremony for a mural depicting those who blazed the trail at the school on Paddock Road, St. Michael, and encouraged students to follow suit.

Alluding to the theme: “Blazing Trails”, Dr. Archer-Bradshaw said: “The thing about blazing a trail is that one does not only serve him/herself in doing so but one creates a pathway for others to follow.”

Stating that the path to success is never easy but “always worth the journey”, she said: “It is because those persons that we are recognising blazed the trail that you are here today, that we are where we are today, as a society…. Each of you have it within your power to determine which path of success you intend to follow. Once your eyes have been set on the prize, even you, as students, can blaze the trail to make your mark, just as other Garrisonians or Graydonians, who went before you.”

Meanwhile, Principal, Peter Cox, lauded the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training for recognising the outstanding members of the Graydon Sealy family, in the creation of the mural.

He said: “It captures the achievements of this noble institution and sets it on a stage that becomes a beacon for our community and the landscape of education, and for this, they should be commended for they have set a watch on the heritage of our school that craftsmen of their fate can be seen.”

The mural portrays several stalwarts of the school including the first principal, Graydon Sealy; another principal, Matthew Farley; former West Indies cricketer, Dwain Smith, as well as former students/artistes “Chrissy D” and “Lil Rick”.
