The National Advisory Committee on Education has been making steady progress as it seeks to play its part in the formulation of a new local education policy.
According to Administrative Officer 1 (Research Planning and International Relations Unit), Cyril Burke, the Committee has just completed the second phase of the consultation process and is satisfied with the outcome so far.
???We have just completed our focus group meetings where we met with representatives of various entities and non-governmental organisations. These included associations such as The Social Partnership, The Barbados Christian Council, various psycho-social professionals and students from both primary and secondary schools,??? he pointed out.
Mr. Burke explained that NACE???s aim was to target persons with a special
interest in the educational process. ???We wanted to hear specifically from those groups to get an idea of any concerns they might have, as well as any solutions to advance the education process,??? he stressed.
He said that it was ???not too late??? for interested persons to make a contribution. ???We are still accepting written documents from the public which may be submitted via email to nace.moe@gmail.com.???
A variety of topics were discussed during last year???s NACE town-hall meetings, including co-education, substance abuse and negative subcultures, discipline in schools, education for students with special needs, teacher professional development, support services in schools, violence in schools, and integration of information and communication technology in education.
