As part of its Human Resource Development (HRD) Strategy, the Ministry of Labour will host a National Conference on Entrepreneurship and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), from Tuesday, February, 2 to Wednesday, February, 3.
The conference will be held under the theme: Exploring Areas of Complementarity, and takes place at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day.
The main objective of the conference is to focus on defining the reforms needed in the education and training system to support the growth of innovation and entrepreneurship in Barbados. It also aims to facilitate a national dialogue on the topic of entrepreneurship.
The event comes as the Government of Barbados has recognised the link between creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, and the improvement of international competitiveness, the creation of wealth and economic development.
Therefore, Government is seeking to create mechanisms that will facilitate the development of a cadre of persons capable of creating their own employment and by extension, employing for others. The conference will also focus on several components of STEM Education and Entrepreneurship training and development.
Specially invited guests will include members of specific Government Ministries responsible for the productive sectors, Curriculum Development Officers from education and training institutions, as well as Non-Governmental Organisations and donor agencies.
Minister of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, will deliver the feature address at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, February 2, at 9:00 a.m.
