Under the theme: Citizen Security – Linking Societal Systems for Success, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development will host a National Consultation on Society on Monday July 25, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC), from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Topics for review at this Consultation will include: Safeguarding Our Children, Safeguarding Our Future: Child Abuse and Neglect presented by Dr. Letmie Rock; Individual Risk Factors and/or Social Determinants: Engaging the Dis-engaged Youth featuring Cleviston Hunte; The Tragedy Behind closed Doors: Domestic Violence and Society’s Response by Dr. Halimah Deshong; The Ageing Society: Opportunities and Challenges by Roseann Richards and Society’s Viewpoint, a panel discussion to be moderated by Joan Cuffie.

It is anticipated that these topics will highlight the societal issues facing Barbados; permit the perspective of the ordinary Barbadian to be heard; suggest a way forward and inform the formulation of policy that will address the issues outlined.

Speakers include Prime Minister, Freundel Stuart; Minister of Culture, Stephen Lashley; Minister of Social Care, Steve Blackett and representative of the NGO Community, Rodney Grant.
