Find out what you should do during an earthquake. (BGIS)

Schools, businesses, organizations and other members of the public are reminded that the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) has designated Friday, March 6, as National Earthquake Preparedness Day.

Persons are therefore encouraged to conduct the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” earthquake drill within their homes, schools, businesses or communities at 10:00 a.m. on the day.

This national drill forms part of the activities to mark Coastal Hazards and Earthquake Smart Month, being celebrated under the theme A Tsunami Smart Barbados: Vision 2020.

The drill is designed to increase seismic awareness among the Barbadian community and to test individuals’ earthquake procedures.

Participants are encouraged to upload photos or videos of their school, business or community practising their respective earthquake procedures to social media, tagging the DEM at deminfo@barbados.gov.bb.

They are also encouraged to use the hashtag #PrepareAndBeAware, when posting.
