Hundreds of Barbadians from all religious persuasions will come together to give thanks for this nation’s prosperity in the form of the National Independence Service this Sunday, November 25.

The 4:00 p.m. service, which takes place at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael under the theme Strengthening Our Nation through Family, will be preceded by cultural presentations at 3:00 p.m., featuring schools, church choirs, community and national organisations and the band of the Royal Barbados Police Force. It will be broadcast live on radio and television.

Representatives of various religious organisations will offer prayers for the nation, young people, family life and the vulnerable. There will also be a musical selection by the National Mass Choir and a scripture reading by a representative of the Jewish community.

Chairman of the Barbados Evangelical Association, Dr. Nigel Taylor, will be the Chief Celebrant, while priest-in-charge of the White Park Wesleyan Holiness Church, Reverend Joel Cumberbatch, will deliver the sermon. In addition, Archbishop of the West Indies and Bishop of Barbados, the Most Reverend Dr. John Holder, CBE, will administer the benediction and blessing.

The National Independence Ecumenical Service is being coordinated by the Ministry of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth and tickets may be collected from that ministry, Mall Internationale, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, or the General Post Office, Cheapside, Bridgetown.
