The National Insurance Office (NIO) reminds persons who are registering for the unemployment benefit to present their national identification card, along with the termination of services/lay-off certificate, to the Unemployment Section at the E. Humphrey Walcott Building, corner of Collymore Rock and Culloden Road, St. Michael.

Persons can still register without a termination of services/lay-off certificate. They can always submit the termination/lay-off certificate when they receive it from the employer. The NIO is also asking persons to make make their claim within two weeks of the date of termination. If they have not done so, they should visit the Unemployment Section as soon as possible.

Employers are also reminded to provide employees with a termination of services/lay-off certificate on the last day of employment. In addition, they should submit a copy to the National Insurance Office within one week of the date of termination.

The Unemployment Section is open from Monday to Friday, between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm. The NIS thanks you for your usual cooperation.
