There are plans to have more major sporting meets at the National Stadium now that its track has been refurbished.

This was disclosed by Sports Minister, Stephen Lashley, as he addressed the opening ceremony of the National Inter-Camp Games today at the National Stadium.

Noting that today???s track meet culminated a whole series of sporting events in the National Summer Camps programme, Mr. Lashley said he hoped the athletic championships, which bring all of the 62 camps together, would grow into a major sporting event on the calendar.

???Now that we have the track completed, we want to see major track meets and cycling, as well, at the stadium; but we want to do it with a difference; we want to have entertainment as a central part of these events,??? he noted.

Mr. Lashley said he was pleased the games could take place at the newly refurbished track, pointing out that although both the adult and Junior Kadooment events were held at the venue, the track sustained no damage.

The summer camps end this week.
