Barbadian music icon, the late Jackie Opel, will be celebrated during this month, when the National Library Service (NLS) hosts a number of events.

A lecture, entitled “Jackie Opel’s Impact on Music in Barbados”, will be delivered by University of the West Indies’ lecturer, Dr. Cleve Scott, on August 16, and aired on CBC TV 8 on August 23, at 8:00 p.m.

An interview with Mark Williams, titled “Reflections on Jackie Opel”, will be broadcast via social media on August 25, at 10:30 a.m.

On August 27, at 5:00 p.m., there will be a round table discussion on the life of Jackie Opel, at NLS headquarters, Fairchild Street, St. Michael.  The participants will be The Most Honourable Anthony Carter, Al Gilkes, Richard Stoute, Desmond Weekes, and Mark Williams. This event will be simultaneously broadcast via Zoom to facilitate participation from persons throughout the diaspora.
