This year, the National Nutrition Centre (NNC) will again be putting on a number of summer camps for children between the ages of nine and 13 years.

The camps, which will be seeking to instill good nutritional habits and promote healthy lifestyles among the participants, will run from July 7 to August 22, at various venues across the island. They will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. each day.

The first one will be held at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, from July 7 until July 18. The next one will come off at Combermere School between July 21 and August 5.

The final camp will be pitched at Ellerslie Secondary School, from August 11 and runs until August 22.

The focal point of the programme is to create an awareness and educate the children about their nutritional needs, through the preparation of nutritious dishes using local foods, while fostering and creating a general interest in food security methods like kitchen gardening.

Camp activities will include discussions and hands on experience to help the children acquire a positive health attitude and achieve the goals of the programme.

Registration takes place next Monday, June 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the National Nutrition Centre, Ladymeade Gardens, Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael.

Parents interested in enrolling their children in this year’s camp should contact the National Nutrition Centre at 427-1693/94 for further information.
