Students interested in obtaining scholarships here and in the United States of America (USA) have been invited to attend an Educational Opportunity Conference that will be put on next Thursday, November 18. It takes place at the Harrison College’s School Hall, from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m.

The event is being held as part of International Education Week (IEW), which runs from November 15 to 19 under the auspices of the Barbados National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (BNCPTA) in collaboration with the United States Embassy’s Education USA Office.

A key aim of the event is to provide students, teachers and parents from public, as well as private secondary schools, with an opportunity to learn about the availability of scholarships here and in the USA.

Dr. Brent Hardt, Charg?? de Affairs of the US Embassy, will welcome the participants, while President of the BNCPTA, Rhonda Blackman, will deliver opening remarks. Dr. Brent Hardt will also announce the winners of the IEW Essay Contest and present the awards.

President of the Small Business Association, Celeste Foster, will speak on Entrepreneurship and Education.

There will also be a presentation on "US Higher Education – The Application Process, Scholarship/Financial Aid/Tips for Saving on College Education" by Education USA Outreach Adviser Ichiyo Iwata; and Education USA Adviser, at the Barbados Community College, Cheryl Licorish.

Senior Education Officer, Higher Education Division, in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, David Clement, will outline procedures for obtaining "Government Financial Aid, Scholarship and Grants" that can be used for studying at US universities.

The conference is free and expects to draw more than 100 parents and students from various levels of secondary schools.??jgill@barbados.gov.bb
