The Barbados Accreditation Council???s (BAC) inception workshop on the Development of the Barbados National Qualifications Register (NQR) will now be held on Friday, October 31, instead of tomorrow, Tuesday, October 28.

An aspect of the European Union development project, Consultancy To Design, Develop And Implement A National Qualifications Register For Barbados, the workshop will run from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Baobab Tower, Warrens, St. Michael.

A critical challenge that faces Barbados is the development of a competent workforce that can compete in a fierce global environment.

Designing an NQR is being seen as a logical complement to the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), one of the critical pillars identified in Government???s Human Resource Development Strategy 2011-2016 that will build, enable and facilitate the development of Barbadians through lifelong learning.

The NQR will be the reference point for registered and accredited post-secondary/tertiary educational providers; accredited programmes awarded by post-secondary/tertiary educational providers; and recognised awarding bodies in Barbados. These programmes or qualifications (i.e. certificates, diplomas, or degrees) must conform to the NQF.

The NQR information system will provide information to the public, post-secondary/tertiary education and training providers, employers, professional bodies, and Government agencies on registered and accredited educational providers. It will also provide information on accredited academic and technical and vocational education and training qualifications.

BAC???s Executive Director, Valda Alleyne, will deliver welcome remarks to stakeholders, while facilitators for the workshop will be NQR Team Leader, Portugal, Dr. Fortunato Da Costa; and NQR IT Expert, South Africa, Dr. Peter Denny.
