This weekend signals the start of National Senior Games 2013, and the public is invited to come out and give its support to this island’s senior athletes.

The games will begin this Sunday, March 31, with the basketball tournament which takes place at the YMCA, Pinfold Street, The City. Matches will continue on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7, and the finals are scheduled for Saturday, April 13. Each match will begin at 5:00 p.m.??

Table tennis will be staged on Monday, April 8, Wednesday, April 10 and Monday, April 15, at John Beckles Drive, St. Michael, beginning at 7:00 p.m. each evening.

From Monday, April 8 to Friday, April 19, the public can visit the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Wildey, St. Michael, to watch the athletes display their prowess in Tennis. Matches will begin at 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, while on weekends, they will be played from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Netball fans are encouraged to support the players from Thursday, April 11 to Saturday, April 13 at the Netball Stadium, Waterford, St. Michael, from 6:00 p.m. daily, while archery will take place at the Archery Association Range, Belle View Gap, Waterford, on Saturday, April 13 from 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 14, from 9:00 a.m.

On Sunday, April 7, out the cyclists will compete in the road race which will start on Spring Garden, opposite Weiser’s on the Bay, at 7:30 a.m.

The Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development is also encouraging persons who are interested in participating in any of the disciplines to collect registration forms from the National Sports Council, Blenheim, St. Michael, or any of the sporting associations.
