Over 240 seniors will display their athletic prowess this Saturday, May 14, as the 10th annual National Senior Games comes off at the National Stadium, Waterford, St. Michael.

The event, which is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, and the National Assistance Board, will run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Athletes will compete in a number of track and field events, including: the 50, 100, 400 and 1500 metre races; long and high jumps; discus; shot put and cycling. The minister’s race along with celebrity and children’s races will also be highlights of the day’s activities.

Additionally, there will be free health checks, performances by Anderson "Blood" Armstrong, jumping tents for children, and a live DJ.

The day’s events will be preceded by a short ceremony, highlighted by a torch run and parade by the participants, followed by an address by Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steve Blackett.

Tickets for the National Senior Games are available from CS Pharmacy, Broad Street; Carlton Supermarket, Black Rock; Emerald City Supermarket, Six Roads;

Fisherman’s Pub, Speightstown; Joe’s Pharmacy, Oistins; and Sports and Games, Barbados Limited, Corner of James and Roebuck Streets.
