The National Ecumenical Service to mark Barbados’ 42nd Anniversary of Independence will take place this coming Sunday, November 23, in Independence Square, Bridgetown.

The event, which gets under way at 4:00 p.m. and runs until 5:30 p.m., will be attended by several dignitaries including the Governor General, Sir Clifford Husbands; Prime Minister, David Thompson; Chief Justice, Sir David Simmons, and other members of the judiciary; as well as Parliamentarians, the diplomatic corps and members of the social partnership.

A Worship Session, Intercessory Prayers, Scripture Readings, and the Benediction are key features of the afternoon’s ceremony. The Barbados Youth Orchestra, the Royal Barbados Police Force Band and the Amalgamated Mass Choir will perform as well.

A half-hour prelude of recorded music will get the proceedings going.

Sunday’s inter-denominational service is open to all members of the public and will be broadcast live on radio and television.
