The Ministry of Health and Wellness is spearheading a number of boot camps and other wellness activities around Barbados on Saturday, as it kicks off a national wellness initiative.

The initiative, which is aimed at encouraging Barbadians to become more physically active, will be officially launched by Minister of Health and Wellness, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Bostic at Ellerton Community Centre, Ellerton, St. George, at 10:00 a.m.

Activities begin at the National Cultural Foundation’s carpark, West Terrace, St. James, with a boot camp scheduled for 6:00 a.m.  At 7:00 a.m., camps will kick off at Grantley Adams Secondary School, Blackman’s, St. Joseph, and the Eden Lodge Hard Court, Eden Lodge, St. Michael.

At 8:00 a.m., boot camps will commence at Vauxhall Primary School, Vauxhall, Christ Church, and Bayley’s Primary School, Merricks, St. Philip; and at 10:00 a.m. at Gall Hill Playing Field, Gall Hill, St. John, and Carlton Sports Club, Black Rock, St. Michael.

A wellness activity will take place at the Silver Sands Heritage Park, Silver Sands, Christ Church at 11:00 a.m., with the boot camp scheduled for 3:00 p.m.  Similarly, at Bim Pasture, Hill Road, Bank Hall, St. Michael, the wellness activity is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. and the boot camp at 3:00 p.m.

Parkinson Resource Centre, The Pine, St. Michael, will be the venue for the wellness activity starting at 2:00 p.m., with the boot camp scheduled for 5:00 p.m.  And at 4:00 p.m., a boot camp kicks off at Princess Margaret Secondary School, Six Roads, St. Philip.

The day’s activities climax at London Bourne Towers, Bay Street, St. Michael, with a wellness activity at 4:00 p.m. and a boot camp at 5:00 p.m.

The Ministry is encouraging the widest possible public participation in all these activities as it seeks to promote a wellness revolution in Barbados aimed at curtailing the non-communicable diseases epidemic.
