Minister of Youth, Stephen Lashley

The launch of the National Youth Forum, which was postponed due to inclement weather last Sunday, has been rescheduled to Sunday, July 4.?? It will now be held at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Minister of Youth, Stephen Lashley stated he was hopeful that the recent rains had not put a damper on the interest and enthusiasm of the young people.?? "I am encouraging the youth to come out and be a part of this event which will showcase the many talents of young Barbadians, whether it is in the areas of athletics, entertainment, entrepreneurship or academia. ??There will also be a number of multi-media presentations and speeches from several outstanding young Barbadians," he said.??

On the evening of July 4, the Vauxhall Steel Orchestra will entertain the audience from 5:30 p.m. until the official start at 6:00 p.m. Entertainment will include Praise Academy of Dance, Xtra Hype, poet Adrian Green, Sir Ruel, Dwayne Husbands, Edwin Yearwood and Krosfyah, and Kirk Browne and the band Strategy.?? Minister of Youth, Stephen Lashley; Minister of Education, Ronald Jones; Minister of Culture, Steve Blackett; and Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Patrick Todd will also speak.

The launch will be carried live on CBC TV channel 8 and 98.1 FM and Minister Lashley is expected to deliver the feature address around 7:30 p.m. The show is scheduled to end at 10:00 p.m.

Additionally, the Transport Board and the minibus association will increase transportation on that day. No illegal parking or vending will be allowed.

Mr. Lashley explained that when fully established, the Forum would enable young people to become true partners in the development of this country.?? "The goal is to mobilise young people to discus relevant issues, for brain-storming, for solutions, for making recommendations, for performing an advocacy role, for disseminating information widely, and for working closely with partners to empower our youth," he added. lbayley@barbados.gov.bb
