"Barbados is a water scarce country, the water you waste today will not be available for use tomorrow. ??Please conserve water."

This is the strong message currently being sent to members of the public utilising the National Conservation Commission’s (NCC) public bathroom facilities and beach showers.

According to?? the NCC’s Special Projects Officer, Ricardo Marshall,?? as part of ongoing efforts to promote water conservation at the 24 public washroom facilities managed by the organisation, the NCC is currently in the process of installing 72 signs with the above message, which appeals to the populace to reduce their water consumption.

Since the washrooms are not communal, Mr. Marshall explained, signs will be placed in both male and female sections of the facilities and additionally near the external showers in the case of the beach amenities.

"Barbados is currently experiencing its worst drought in 100 years. It is important that we remember that our water supply is finite; which means that we do not have an endless supply. It is critically important that we be mindful of our water utilisation and consumption at home and when using public facilities.

"Water conservation needs to be a way of life, not just an issue that we think about once in a while. Therefore, this means that water conservation is a job for the everyday person who enjoys having access to this life-sustaining resource called water.?? Every little bit helps. Every drip adds up to gallons," the NCC official maintained.

The commission’s management is soliciting the full cooperation of Barbadians in reducing water wastage at its washrooms. "We all enjoy the many ways that we use water, so why not do our part in caring for our water today?" Mr. Marshall queried.
