The National Conservation Commission (NCC) is seeking to extend its outreach programmes into the island’s parks and beaches.

Chairman?? of?? the Board, Tyrone Lowe, said this is as an attempt to positively impact?? persons at the?? individual, familial and community levels, by providing outlets for wholesome activities.

Mr. Lowe’s comments came as he addressed a press launch for this year’s "Dancing under the Stars" show, which is slated to come off on Friday, December 3, at the Wildey Gymnasium.?? Last year’s inaugural show was held in Queen’s Park.

"It is our hope that as the NCC extends its outreach programme, that we can utilise our parks in very positive ways. So far, Farley Hill has been the most sought after park that people use for Gospel on the Hill, Jazz on the Hill, Calypso on the Hill and Reggae on the Hill.?? Brandons has been utilised for beach volley ball, and beach football. But, we are aware that our parks and beaches are excellent areas for???? exercise and we need to have activities so that the Barbadian public can use all of these parks to their benefit," he underscored.

??Mr. Lowe said the Commission was hoping to "concentrate heavily" on taking activities around the country, so that family members could get out and be involved in various events, rather than simply going for walks.

"The idea is to bring the family out to have a time of relaxation in the name of stress relief, the building of societies and bringing communities closer.

"It is believed that our society is so stressed that we attract many diseases into our own bodies, among our families and by extension into our communities," the NCC official surmised.????cgaskin@barbados.gov.bb
